Who we are
Meadow Way Chapel (MWC) is located in Hellesdon, a suburb 4 miles northwest of Norwich city centre. It is a self-governing independent evangelical church but it has close links with other churches, including affiliation with Evangelical Alliance.
MWC was started in 1971 after a series of special services held within a marquee, primarily for children. Following this, regular services and activities moved into people’s homes and subsequently into a mobile classroom. The site of the present church building was bought and the first phase of the building erected mostly through a self-help scheme by the early members (a number of whom still worship at MWC). It was opened in April 1974.
Extensions have been added to cater for the various activities of the church as the membership has grown. Each Sunday around 120 people attend the All Age Worship, with families, children and young people still prominent. We also have an evening service each Sunday and home groups meet during the week for smaller group Bible study, fellowship and prayer.
MWC has employed a Community Worker since January 2007 to provide support to the elderly of the community by way of help with transport, advice, practical help and friendship. The church also runs a Friday afternoon club and a coffee morning at HCC, both providing opportunities to chat and support older residents of Hellesdon. At the church there are also a bi-weekly Luncheon Club and monthly Saturday Special for older residents in the area.
In January 2010, MWC appointed a Family Worker to support families both in the church and community. This has resulted in the commencement of Messy Church, holiday clubs, film mornings and Dads’ events, as well as closer contacts with local schools. Other children’s activities taking place include weekly parent and toddler groups and an annual children’s camp in the summer holidays.
With an increasing number of young people attending MWC, in September 2014 we partnered with Norwich Youth For Christ to employ a Youth Worker. Current activities aimed at our young people are Oasis (a Friday evening youth club), Bible Class on a Sunday morning, a youth weekend away and a summer residential camp.
Meadow Way Chapel is a registered charity, number 1144925, (under the name Hellesdon Christian Fellowship) with a board of Trustees.
